“I was raised by four women, my mother, grandmother, great grandmother and my aunt- all who believed that you must always be presentable for the world. This includes heels, a fancy outfit, curled hair and most importantly- lipstick. Beauty was engrained in me from a young age, and I still love it. Why? Read on.

Because feeling beautiful makes me feel confident, unstoppable, and ready to face the day. What makes me love it more is that it’s subjective, meaning it symbolizes something different to each one of us. This means that YOU get to define your own beauty, and I get to help enhance it. I am here to listen to what it is you want, and help you achieve natural, flawless results.  My goal is to help you feel beautiful on the outside, so your inner beauty can shine through confidently.”

XO, Terralyn

why AESTHETICS?

My very honest Nursing School journey

CHILDHOOD DREAMS

I wanted to be a nurse since I was 8. Pediatric Oncology. That was the dream. It was at least until I started managing restaurants and had my precious son. Then that dream got farther and farther away as I slowly believed my own lies that I couldn’t do it with a kid. Spoiler alert: I did it, and you CAN do it too. I later met my loving husband Daryl. We had been dating for about a year when, bless his heart, he encouraged me to apply to a very competitive nursing program. Walla Walla Community College in Washington is the number one rated Community College in the nation, and the nursing program is in the top nine. I didn’t expect to get accepted the first year I applied. BUT I DID! I was so ecstatic that my dream job was 2 years away.

NURSING SCHOOL

My very honest, true story

I remember the day I had my first meltdown. Fast forward one week into nursing school and I’m on the floor of my closet throwing one of my notorious fits. Like a toddler. I hated nursing school and I thought I didn’t want to be a nurse. I begged my husband to let me quit. He looked at me and said “You need to do this for you. You will thank me after you graduate.”  I told him NEVER and I think I cried the whole way to school that day. After class, I went out to my car and saw a encouraging note from him on my windshield.  If it wasn’t for this man, I would have dropped out and given up when it first got hard.

That feeling of not wanting to be a nurse never really went away. Looking back now, I think it was more that I didn’t want to be a nurse in a hospital. I have so much respect for men and women who work the long hours and night shifts, but that never ignited my inner passion. This made nursing school very difficult for me.

The human body fascinates me and I love learning about its many facets. So despite all that, I excelled. Quickly becoming the brightest blonde in the room. I maintained A’s and was told by every professor that I would be an excellent nurse and they couldn’t wait to see where I would go.

WHY AESTHETICS?

Spring break of my first year, Daryl and I took a trip to visit our soon to be new home, San Luis Obispo, CA. We stopped by Jewlery Couture in Ventura to shop for our wedding bands. That’s where we met Janelle. Despite the fact that she is gorgeous from head to toe, she had lips to die for. I shyly asked her what lipstick she had on to make her lips so pretty. She told me about her injector at a local Med Spa. Once we got in the car, I turned to him with hope in my eyes and his response was, I quote, “you don’t need that filler bull shit.” Husbands are notorious for being skeptical of fillers. (See my upcoming blog post on husbands and filler, because girls, I have filler now and he loves it…secretly.)

In the airport on the way home back to Washington, I couldn’t help myself and I looked up this Med Spa. I clicked on the “about me” tab and I almost dropped the champagne flute I was holding. The injector IS A NURSE. I let that sink in for a few minutes (okay maybe like 2 seconds) and then I squealed and told Daryl I was going to be a nurse injector when I graduated.

That day, I gained the determination to finish nursing school. It gave me hope that I would actually put my degree to good use. To make women feel beautiful, outside and in. That day I found my passion, and its been on fire ever since.

BEAUTY BRAINS AND BOTOX

I am being honest and open about my journey, because I hope it inspires you to chase your dreams. I love being a nurse, and I am so proud to be part of this profession. I am even more proud of myself for graduating nursing school and persevering through the long nights, hard tests, and having to wear bright blue scrubs. I am now in love with my career.

Darlings, please promise me that you will never give up on your dreams. Promise me, and yourself that you will ignite your inner passion and go chase what will make you happy. I promise, it’s worth it. All you need is your inner Beauty, some Brains, and a little Botox.

The Ones who taught me how to hold a needle

How I became certified as an Aesthetic Nurse Injector

NATIONAL LASER INSTITUTE

The National Laser Institute is the premier school to attend if you are looking for Medical Aesthetic training. They combine classroom instruction with one-on-one hands on training. I attended the 14 day accredited course for medical professionals (nurses, doctors) in Scottsdale Arizona. By the end of the two weeks, I had so much knowledge poured into my brain, I knew I had been set up for success.

During those two weeks I became certified in:

  • Injectables (Botox, Dysport, Dermal Fillers)

  • Advanced Injectables with intensive, hands on training

  • Didactic classroom work and intensive training in Clinical Laser, Laser Medical Aesthetics Essentials and Hair Removal

  • Absorbable PDO Threads

  • Platelet Rich Plasma in Conjunction with Microneedling

  • Sclerotherapy

  • Kybella

  • HCG Weight Loss

  • Non-Surgical body Contouring

 WOULD I RECOMMEND IT?

Needles down I would recommend attending NLI to any nurse just starting her/his career in aesthetics, or to any current injector wanting to expand their knowledge. Even if you already have a baseline knowledge, you will still learn something. I was taught so many innovative aesthetic techniques, and the Doctors and Nurse Practitioners that I trained under are phenomenal. They made learning fun, quick and painless. I am thankful every day for the training I received, the teachers I learned from, and the people I met. I can’t wait to go back!

ARE YOU EVER REALLY READY?

Another popular question I get asked frequently is if I felt ready to inject on my own after graduating from NLI. My response is always “Are you ever really ready?”

In all honesty, it’s scary the first time you walk up to a patient, needle in hand and get ready to inject filler on your own. I doubted my abilities, wondering if I had the “artistic talent” everyone said you needed to be an injector. But I feel like these are normal emotions for anyone starting something new. My advice is to be self-aware, identify the perimeter of your comfort bubble, then take a big breath and step out of it! You don’t grow while you are staying in your comfort zone. It limits you. If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough.

Because NLI offers hands on clinical training with patients booked back to back for 8 hours, I feel that I received a significant amount of experience injecting. I may not have felt ready, but I knew deep down that I had the best training and learned skills to perfect the tissue on the other end of my needle. And by stepping out of my comfort zone, I injected a co-worker’s lips, and they turned out beautiful. I realized I possessed the talent needed to be successful in this beautiful world of aesthetics.

QUESTIONS?

It can be overwhelming when trying to figure out where you belong in the world of nursing. Trust me, I myself have felt very lost because there are so many options and so many opportunities!

Please reach out to me if you have any questions about my journey towards becoming an Aesthetic Nurse. I would love to help you figure out if this would be the right career option for you, help guide you, or even just offer some encouragement. If you haven’t already, check out my blogpost on my Nursing School Journey and learn how I found myself in the world of Aesthetics.
